The NFL Scouting Combine is Here – Let us Help You Follow it
By Chris Barry, PowerHouseGM.com
The NFL Scouting Combine started Thursday, February 21st. But, while all the testing – especially the medical testing – that has been going on already is important, the real fun starts on Saturday morning when the live practices start.
Coverage on the NFL Network is as follows:
- Saturday, February 23rd, from 9am to 7pm ET – Offensive Linemen, Tight Ends, and Kickers
- Sunday, 9am-7pm ET – Quarterbacks, Running Backs, and Wide Receivers
- Monday, 9am-7pm ET – Linebackers and Defensive Linemen
- Tuesday, 9am-7pm ET – Defensive Backs
NFL Network will also have a nightly recap show from 8pm-11pm all four nights. If this year is like years past, there will be a lot of highlights, but these are not merely edits; they will have original content.
Then, if you for some reason need to see it all again, you can stay up all night watching the repeats. Counting only the original coverage (including the evening recaps,) the NFL Network is showing 52 hours of total coverage, which is pretty staggering, and a major time commitment for the hard core fans that we consider our soulmates. For those of us with kids, it’s even tougher!
There are some fascinating stories this year, as always, from Geno Smith’s commendable decision to fully participate to Marcus Lattimore’s inspiring comeback to Rich Eisen’s attempt to crack the 6.0 barrier. Well, maybe not that last one.
The Combine generates a lot of work for us, as it’s time to populate the “measurables” data in our Draft Prospect Scouting spreadsheet.
Most draft sites publish the times shown on TV, but those are not the official times. We’ll get those, including the 10-yard and 20-yard splits, in the weeks after the Combine, and get them in our prospects data on this page as soon as we can.
Finally, we have updated our downloadable 2013 NFL Draft Prospects spreadsheet to include the shirt numbers that the prospects will wear in Indy, hopefully making it easier for you to track and keep notes.
If you know what you’re doing in Excel, just filter for the position you’re watching, and sort by the Combine number, and you’ll be able to just go down the sheet entering comments as you watch.
Get the latest version of the spreadsheet here, and enjoy the next four days on your sofa!
